Individual, Couples and Family Therapy

SERVICES

Alanna Regan LCSW-R is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a practice location in Smithtown, New York. She provides psychotherapy and counseling to individuals, couples and families. Ms. Regan is also a Level III Gottman Method trained therapist. Her therapy approach comprises an electic mix of cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, family systems and interpersonal strategies to help people address life problems and achieve life goals. This includes exploring the effects of one’s past on current problems, understanding how thoughts influence our behavior, how changes in present behavior can change the way we perceive ourselves, and the significance of current relationships in shaping our lives.

Please feel free to contact Ms. Regan to discuss your personal situation and to clarify how psychotherapy might benefit you or your family. There is no obligation or cost for this initial discussion. You may also arrange an office appointment for an initial consultation.

Daytime and evening appointments available & most insurance accepted.

Is it time for Psychotherapy?

The Long Island community is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. Occasionally, however, we may be presented with circumstances that tax your ability to effectively cope with life’s challenges. Often we develop symptoms in response to conflicts we experience at home, work, or within our relationships. This may involve sadness that doesn’t seem to go away, excessive worry, substance abuse, problems at work or school, marital problems, medical crises, an impending death in the family or loss of a loved one. Problems can develop in response to the transitions that are a natural part of life as it relates to relationships, family and work: parenting…adolescence…the departure of a college student… the trauma of an accident or medical problem... job loss and career change possibilities… marital stress… separation and divorce… serious family illness…an aging parent. In some instances these challenges and transitions may affect our daily sense of well-being, become overwhelming affecting our functioning in relationships with others or how we feel about ourselves. Psychotherapy and counseling is a proven and effective way to regain our sense of balance and capability and help maintain a healthy perspective while dealing directly with life problems such as:

Depression
Anxiety
Relationship Problems

Infidelity
Work-Related Stress
Postpartum Depression
Parenting
Pre-Marital Concerns
Sexuality
Gender Identity

LGBTQ
Low Self Esteem
Drug and Alcohol Problems
Midlife Crises
Stress
Life Transitions
Retirement
Menopause
Medical Crises
Loss and Bereavement

These life challenges, however, are opportunities for growth in a supportive and caring environment. Ms. Regan provides therapies essentially designed to educate, heal, comfort, strengthen and support individuals and families with problems during times of stress and transition. It can also provide a foundation for personal growth and change. The approach to therapy with my clients is threefold:

~ Provide an understanding and supportive environment in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings about your concerns.

~ Uncover negative thought and behavior patterns that may perpetuate your problems or create resistance to needed change.

~ Develop strategies and solutions to improve your life by improving your coping, functioning and a general sense of well-being.
